No School Because of COVID-19
Lily—I feel like I am being quarantined. Schools are closed and it feels weird. We don’t get to see my teacher and that is also so so weird to me. It is also strange having my mom teach me. But she used to teach other kids so she’s a good teacher. I miss all my friends. I hope we can go back to school because I miss all my friends and my teacher and Theo’s bump it up. I never thought I would miss school so much.
Emett—First of all I miss my teacher, my friends, and walking past the office in the morning. I really want to go back to my normal school day. I expected to go back to school on Monday but now I'll have to wait six weeks! There isn’t one good thing about this COVID-19 situation. I really miss doing D.O.L. with Mr. Wolfe and singing bump it up. Nothing would make me happier than to go to school for just a day. But in summary, I miss school and this has been a weird and upsetting year.

Lily & Emett,
I'm so proud of you for sharing your feelings. I'll keep in contact with you and your families with activities to keep your skills sharp!
In the meantime, remember I'm here, and you're so blessed to be home with your family who loves and cares for you.
Hi, Lily and Emmett. I enjoyed reading your thoughts about not being able to go to school. You did a great job! My name is Gail Steinkraus and I used to teach with Mr. Wolfe a long time ago. I guess you could say I pretty much taught him everything he knows. 😂 I hope school wil open again soon and you are staying happy and healthy! Keep writing!
Hello friends! My name is Miss Zoyhofski and I am a teacher on the other side of the United States. I am a second and third grade teacher in the state of New York and I have similar feelings as all of you. I miss my students and the learning we have done thus far. I want you to know that we miss you as well and we cannot wait to get back to school. In the meantime; spend time with your family, do something for yourself every day, read a book, play a video game, and enjoy this time. We miss you and we will see you soon!
Miss Zoyhofski
Hi Lily and Emmett
I enjoyed reading your post. I'm sorry you at unable to be in the classroom with your friends and teacher. Keep working on the activities Mr. Wolfe has for you and stay healthy. You'll be back before you know it!
I hope you both continue to write about this experience. I'm not the only one to enjoy your views on life during this situation.

Hello Lily and Emmett!
I am Mrs. Bogue, I know Mr. Wolfe from running. He is a fun runner!!
I wanted to say what a fantastic job you have done expressing your thoughts and emotions about school being out. It’s really hard to think about missing all your friends and teacher.
I have a question, Emmett, what is that book on the table next to you in the picture? Is it a good book? Who is the hero in the book? Would you tell another third grader to read it?
Lily, I have a question for you too, did you make any of those bracelets? They look really fun. What were you drawing in that picture? I can see my favorite color, yellow! What is your favorite color?
Have a good Wednesday, try to go outside and smile up at the sunshine, it will make your face happy!!
Best regards,
Mrs. Bogue
Hi Lily and Emett! My name is Sherry and I’m a friend of Mr. Wolfe. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings and please know, you’re not alone in your sentiments about the COVID situation. I’m an adult with two young kids and I’m just as sad about schools being closed and feeling like life has been turned upside down for us all. But we will be okay! What is Bump It Up? You both mentioned it and seem to really enjoy it! I wonder if my 1st grader would like it? Another question...what is something you’ve always wanted to learn about but haven’t had the chance to in school? We’re working on Spanish and learning how to play the piano here. I hope you both enjoy your family time and know that your teachers miss you, too! Keep writing, try to learn something new (find that next hidden talent!) and stay safe and healthy.
Hello Lily & Emett,
I'm Mr. Davey, you might remember I visited your class a few months ago! I very much enjoyed reading your post and finding out what it is like in Washington. I also miss school and my students.
I am teaching 2nd Grade in Albania at the moment and it is indeed a very weird situation! Shops and Parks are closed, all transport is banned, the city is quarantined and we even have a 6pm curfew! Everyone here is keeping their spirits high by singing and clapping from the balconies.
Schools might be opening in a couple of weeks here but we shall see! Remember it is only for a short while, and keep up the writing :)
Dear Lily, dear Emett,
my name is Henrik and I live in Germany. I "know" Mr. Wolfe via Instagram, I consider him a fellow runner.
My kids (12yo and 15yo) are at home as well, getting remote school as far as technology and the circumstances allow. We are at day 2 of this and they too miss their friends a lot! I'm not sure they miss school per se, though :)
Please hang in there and remember these two things:
- this too shall pass
- if, at the end, nothing happens and we feel we overreacted, then we did everything right, because nothing happened.
All the best from Germany and please keep sharing your thoughts with us!
Henrik
Love that you miss school! My kids are missing school too. Never thought that would be the case! What are you doing to serve your family? Service makes my kids feel better!
Hello Lily and Emett, my name is Teri Gieck and I work in a high school office. I am home too, and it feels very weird! I miss seeing all the kids each day, greeting them and talking with them. I miss the nice people I work with, I miss the sporting events.... This definitely isn’t the fun kind of time off like spring or summer break..... But we need to stay busy and keep a routine and get some fresh air each day and that makes our situation a little better. Just think, if you wrote down your feelings each day, you could look back at this time, a time we have never experienced and maybe turn it into a book!
Another fun fact, my son Connor, who is all grown up now, had Mr Wolfe when he was your age! He was so excited to be in Mr. Wolfe’s class he never wanted to have school breaks, he still considers him his favorite teacher! So we know how you feel.
Stay busy and try to have some fun each day. Take care
Hi this is Lily. Thank you for commenting on mine and Emett's blog! This is so cool that there are people not from Tacoma reading it.
Mrs. Bogue,
I did make a couple of my bracelets. My mom bought me supplies, and I made one with beads, my mom finger crocheted one for me, and I found the rest. One is a hair tie I took from my mom. I was working on math and that was my scratch paper. My favorite color is blue.
Miss Sherry,
In my class we do DOL, and when we have to make a letter capitalized as a correction. When we do that we say, "Bump bump bump it up! All the way to the sky so you can say hi--HI!" I have always wanted to learn how to do finger crocheting, so maybe my mom can teach me while we are home.
Mr. Davey,
Wow! We don't have a curfew yet but I don't know if we will.
Dear Stopher and Nicolle,
I help with my sister a lot, because sometimes she can get crazy as a 3 year old. I helped my mom make salad for diner and cut up all the vegetables!
Thanks for writing to me and Emett!
Take care, Lily
Good job Lily and Emett. I don't like it either
Hello Lily and Emmett,
My name is Nate B. and I'm a U.S. military member currently stationed in Oklahoma. Although I didn't have Mr. Wolfe as a teacher at your age, I was a part of his amazing running club over a decade ago.
Thank you for sharing your feelings about our current situation. I am one of a few here on the base that still has to go to work every morning, but I am very limited in the locations that I can visit. I understand how both of you feel. Fingers Crossed, COVID-19 passes and we're able to return to our normal lives.
I have a question for each of you:
Lily: Do you like to draw/color? It looks like you're working on something very important in your post.
Emett: I hope your year improves. Other than school, what would make your year better?
Take care and make the best of your current situation!
-Nate
Emett-Hey everyone! Thank you for all of your wonderful comments and questions.
Mrs. Bogue--The book next to me is called Finding Zasha. It's about a kid who's trying to find a dog during World War II. The hero is named Heimrich. I would definitely recommend this to any 3rd grader.
Sherry--During our morning writing corrections if we need to capitalize something we sing "Bump, bump, bump it up!" It's really fun because everyone loves doing it. I would like to learn more about Marvel.
Stopher and Nicolle--What I'm doing to serve my family is helping around the house cleaning up and helping with our pets. We have 1 dog and 2 kittens and 1 cat.
Ember,
I totally agree with you.
I totally hear with missing Mr. Wolfe Emett.
With Lily I totally hear you with missing our friend.:(
Lily, thank you for answering my questions! That finger-crocheting sounds fun (and isn't crotchet a challenging word to spell!). When my daughter was your age she spent HOURS making friendship bracelets with embroidery string. If you don't know how to do that I bet you could look that up and learn how, then you could add to your bracelet collection, and maybe give them away as well. blue is a good color to be your favorite, I mean the sky is blue, there are bluebell flowers, some people's eyes are blue, and then there are blueberries! Delicious! Have a spectacular day and is there anywhere in my response that I should bump it up? :)
Good morning, Emmett, thank you for your answers. I am going to recommend your book to my grandson, Billy. He is also in third grade, but this quarantine time isn't as different for him as it is for you because he already goes to school at home. What is different is that he is not able to go to practice and play hockey, and that is a big bummer. Are you missing any sport or activity that you were looking forward to this spring. Goodness! The first day of spring is tomorrow! Make sure to spring out of bed in the morning to get a good start on it! Have a terrific Tuesday! Mrs. Bogue :)
