Welcome New Lowell Third Graders!

This is our class BLOG, and I'm glad you found it!  A BLOG is a web log (or journal). It is a collection of thoughts, discussions, and happenings.

Be sure you check with your parents, then with their permission, click on the "comment" section after this post.  Then introduce yourself to your new classmates & me.  This is your first assignment!

Some things you might want to mention are: your first name (only), some of your interests, and what you've been doing & reading this summer.

For example:

My name is Mr. Wolfe.  I really enjoy spending time with my family.  I also enjoy running and running races (the photo above is of my daughter and me at this year's Seattle Rock & Roll Half Marathon - I have run this race with her the last few years).  I also like hiking, kayaking, family movie nights, and walking our dog.  This summer one of the books I enjoyed was The Thickety by J.A. White. I enjoy books with a lot of suspense & adventure.   I also read quite a few Runner's World magazines.

I look forward to reading your first BLOG comments & meeting you at the Lowell Barbeque on August 31, and then on our first day of school, September 7th!

Thanks for visiting our class BLOG!

Hi my name is Kate. Let me tell you my interests: I like swimming, biking, traveling, seeing my friends, playing with my dog "Happy", and arts and crafts.
This summer some of the things I did were I took a pottery class, went to Sunriver, Oregon and Spokane, Washington, and inner-tubing on Lake Steilacoom. Most recently I have been reading the Judy Moody books and Captain Underpants.
See you September 7th!
Kate

My name is Sierra. I have a dog named Roxy. My brother and I take her on walks. I did the summer reading challenge and like all of the books. My favorite book I read was Starring Jules. I went to a pottery art camp with my friend Kate and a rock climbing camp with my brother, Carter, and our friends. I loved rock climbing and I'll probably do it again. I'm excited to see my friends at school but I don't want summer to end yet. Your friend, Sierra

Hi Kate,
You have some great interests! I really enjoy traveling as well, I once backpacked through Europe. Where is your favorite place? Your dog has a great name.
The Judy Moody books are funny. I especially like how she say, "Roar!" when she's in a grouchy mood.
I look forward to meeting you in person!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi Sierra,
Thanks for your blog post! I have always wanted to try rock climbing. What do you like best about it? I am not familiar with the book, Starring Jules. I'm going to have to look into that one. I just received the new Harry Potter book so I'm excited about getting started on it! I've taken a ceramics class years ago in college, but I'm interested in what the pottery class you and Kate took together was like.
I am excited for school as well, but I get it, I love summer too!
I hope to see you at the Lowell barbecue.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi. My name is Cruz.

My family went to Montana this summer. We spent time at Georgetown Lake and Butte. I went fishing and I found cool rocks. We also went to Spokane. I have been reading Big Nate, Alien on a Rampage and some Magic Tree House books. I went to Critter Camp, Coding Camp and Robotics at Annie Wright. We celebrated tons of birthdays this summer. We went to a car show with our 47 Ford pickup. You sound very nice. I can't wait to meet you, Mr. Wolfe.

Welcome to Lowell Elementary.

Sincerely,

By Cruz

PS) I like Star Wars

Hi Cruz,

Thanks for your blog comment. You've been busy this summer! I've never been to Montana, but we visit family in Spokane several times a year. My daughter loves the Big Nate books as well. I collect rocks too. My favorite is a huge piece of obsidian I was given. Do you have a favorite type? Your pickup sounds cool, my dad and I both like old cars.
Thank you for your kind comment; you sound nice as well!
I look forward to shaking your hand and hearing more about your camps too.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi there, Jake!
Do you know that when Star Wars first came out many years ago, my brother and I went and saw it on five different occasions! I've enjoyed the movies as well.
I've read all the Harry Potter books as well, they're some of my favorite. In fact, I just purchased the newest one last week. Have you seen it yet?
I still have my Legos from when I was a kid, and my own children played with them too. Do you have the kits or the general sets?
I hope your summer has been super - I'll see you in a few weeks!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi. My name is Caleb. I like to play video games; such as Plants Vs. Zombies, Minecraft, and Five nights at Freddy's. I have a youtube channel where I do game plays. I have two dogs named Mur and Err. Mur is black and Err is white. They are super fluffy and love to cuddle. I have two neighbors that are some of my best friends. One is DJ, he lives next door and Omain, who lives across the street. We hangout a lot.

I have a sister named Lizzy. My family and I took a trip to Austin, Texas to visit my papa and grammy Lou. In Austin we went on a boat where I got to drive for a while and we swam in the lake. We also did lots of hiking and camping over the summer.

I have been reading lots of different books over the summer but I enjoy my video game books. Like Plants vs Zombies, and Minecraft handbooks.
I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and especially meeting Mr. Wolfe.

Sincerely, Caleb.

Hi Caleb,

It was great to get your blog comment today! Your dogs' names are great. I have a dog too, her name is Gabi. I just took her kayaking and paddle boarding this past weekend.

I have never been to Texas. Did you enjoy it? It's always fun to visit places with the added benefit of having friends and family there.

I'm glad you've been reading this summer. I know about Minecraft, but the only real video game I play is the Wii. When I was a kid I liked my Atari video games like Space Invaders.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you as well!

Sincerely, Mr. Wolfe

Hi Benji,

Thanks for leaving your BLOG comment! You have a lot of interests, that's great! I like action movies like James Bond as well. It sounds like you better keep an eye out for your dad, he may be waiting for you NOT to expect it! :) My brothers and I pranked each other a lot as well. I'm glad you've found some good books that you like. Do you like any other graphic novels like those?

Stay cool on these hot summer days, and I look forward to meeting you as well.

Hi Mr. Wolfe,

My name is Kiernan. I enjoy running, reading, science, camping and travel. I enjoy reading books from the Wings of Fire series, Dragonbreath series, Calvin and Hobbes, and mystery books. I sometimes also make my own stories using characters from the Dragonbreath series. My family just moved back from Kansas City. We lived there for a year, but I went to Lowell for K and 1st grade. We had a very long drive, but we got to see lots of scenic spots like Old Faithful, Dinosaur National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park, Roswell, and Route 66.

Sincerely, Kiernan

Hi Naomi!

My daughter was so jealous when she heard you had not one, but two bunnies! You have some great activities. I like to travel as well, in fact, when I graduated from college, I backpacked through Europe for a couple of months. It was a great experience! I have never been to the Italian Alps, but I have hiked a little in the Swiss Alps while visiting family there. The mountains remind me a bit of Mt. Rainier. What types of animal books have you read lately? I like dog books.
I was so glad to meet you at the root beer float social yesterday; I'll see you next week at the barbecue next week!

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hello Kiernan,

I'm glad you'll be back at Lowell this year and in our class. I look forward to talking with you about running. I enjoy it a lot! That is so great that you write using ideas and characters from books you've read. It sounds like you have the makings of an author! It is so fantastic that your family experienced so many scenic spots on your trip back to the Pacific Northwest. I have traveled quite a bit in my life, but would you believe I've never been to see Old Faithful? I'm putting it on my bucket list after your comment on this post!

I'm looking forward to our school year together.

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi, my name is Kellen. I like Legos, inner tubing and water skiing. I also like having sleep-overs with my friends. My neighbors are good friends of mine. We live on a lake and we like to take cruises. My neighbors have a hot tub that we go in after swimming. Summer was fun, but I miss school and I look forward to 3rd grade.

Hi Kellen,

I'm glad you've been having a fun & active summer. I love being on the water as well, but I'm a much better inner tuber than a water skier! :)

School will be great this year! Have you been reading anything new this summer? I'm working on the new Harry Potter book, and getting our classroom ready for you all.

See you soon!

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi Mr. Wolfe,
After I saw you tonight I thought of a question, do you have the Harry Potter series?
Naomi

Hello Naomi,

I'm glad you thought of a question! It was good seeing you last night and being able to talk with you and your family a little bit more.

Yes, I do have the whole Harry Potter series, but I have them at home. Years ago my librarian was even nice to put dust-jackets over them.

Do you have any sports this weekend? I have a trail race.

Thanks for adding a comment to our blog!

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Hi Mr. Wolfe,

I tried to post yesterday but it didn't work. This is what I wrote

Hi I am Lauren. I like reading Harry Potter. I am on the third book. I like playing soccer and doing ice skating and basketball. I like riding horses. This summer I went with my dad and two of my brothers to Bend Oregon to go river rafting. My mom and my oldest brother went home early. It was my birthday when we came home and now I am 9.

Mr. Wolfe said...

Hi Lauren, I'm so glad your comment came through. I hope you had a good first day of school. I did!

Harry Potter, river rafting, and horseback riding - all awesome! You'll have to tell me more about ice skating, I'm not very goods at it.

What have you like best about your current Harry Potter book?

See you tomorrow!
