Hi. I’m Stacey. I absolutely LOVE to write. Words just kind of come to me. So here are my own words.
My mom and I are moving from Lubbock, Texas to Cincinnati, Ohio. I wish we weren’t. All my friends here are so fun. I’m going to miss them. Why does life have to be so hard for me?
My parents are divorced. Mom says it’s for the best, but I disagree.
Oh, by the way, I'm in 4th grade. My teacher, Mrs. Sathya, is teaching us long division. I think it’s easy, though.
Today I mostly just packed all my stuff into bags. It was boring. Mom took me to See’s Candies. I wish I could get my parents back together.
Today's the big drive. Hooray. So excited.
Today when I went to school, the other kids made fun of my clothes and how my parents are divorced. It’s not fair, I miss my old school and friends.
When I went downstairs for breakfast, I told my mom what happened yesterday, and I also asked her if we could go back to Texas, but Mom said this is for the best again.
Today, when I went to sit in my chair in class, I felt something kind of hard and when I sat down it made a sound.
“FLLLLLLLLLLBBBBRRRRRRRRTTTTTT!”
It was a whoopie cushion! The kids had pranked me!
I ran out of the room and into the girls’ bathroom crying.
Today at lunch when I went to find a seat, no one would let me sit, so I had to sit by the smelly junk bins. They stunk so bad! Ugh...
Tonight, for dinner, we had roast beef, corn, and peas. I didn’t eat, so Mom said to go to bed early.
I read in bed for a while, then Mom yelled,
Yesterday was the worst day EVER. The kids in my class are so mean! I sometimes wish I could do my life over and make my parents come back together again. I miss Dad so much!
Today when I walked to school, I didn’t go to my classroom; I went into the woods where I was welcome. I started walking, and walking, and walking, until my feet led me to a little house on a green hillside, and I knocked until an old lady came to the door.
That old lady was so kind! I decided to come back the next day, and the next, and maybe forever! When I came home tonight, Mom was waiting for me by the door.
“WHERE WERE YOU, YOUNG LADY?!?! IT’S MIDNIGHT! YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN BED HOURS AGO! GO TO YOUR ROOM!” she spat.
I ran upstairs to my room.
Today I went back to the woods, and when the sky darkened, I didn’t bother to go home. I just kept walking until I reached the old lady’s home, and when I got there, she welcomed me in and prepared a pot of tea, so we sat down. I told her all about yesterday, and then I asked,
And guess what!?! She said YES!!!
Today I mailed my stepmom a postcard! It said:
I live with an old lady named Maratha now! Hope you don’t miss me too much; cause I'm not coming back.
I got a letter back from my stepmom!
So glad you’re going away!
Dad's back now. We're doing fine.
Wait a sec. Dad’s back? DAD’S BACK?!?!
She's lying. Sooooooo lying.
Today Maratha took me to a thrift shop in town called ‘The Shell’. It has a bunch of cool stuff like conch shells from Key West, sand dollars, signs that say, ‘HOME SWEET BEACH’ and things like that. I got some shells, and Maratha got a cute little sign.
Tonight, for dinner Maratha made beef stew, potatoes, and rolls.
They were delicious (it is also much better than what mom used to make) and for dessert we had pie and whipped cream. YUM!!
Today, I wrote my stepmom another note:
‘That is not true, 5 days ago when I left you hated him and now, you’re back together.
I know how you feel, and I would never lie about that.
We are truly back together.
I can’t believe this! My stepmom got back together with my dad! That's not right.
Today we went to the supermarket to get stuff for dinner because Maratha’s friends are coming over to have dinner. (I hope they have kids.)
Turns out they were just some old people whose kids are in college.
I think it’s time to go back home.
Today I told Maratha that I wanted to go back home. She kind of got mad and said no.
Then, later that night, I snuck out. I creeped back to Mom’s house and knocked, very quietly, on the door.
My mom and I just stared. Maybe for the whole night.
Stacey had a very fun life and from that moment on, she loved her parents more than ever. (And, yes Stacey’s dad was at home, this time.) Thanks for reading and we hope to see you soon.
A Note from the Authors :)
Adelaide lives with her parents in Tacoma, Washington. Adelaide is an only child. She has a passion for reading, programming, spelling, drawing, and writing. Her favorite food is pork dumplings from Din Tai Fung! When she grows up, she wants to be an interior designer. (And to be clear, she misses her class more than anything.)
Lucia lives with her parents in Tacoma, Washington. She has two siblings: a brother and sister. Lucia likes drawing, reading, playing with her siblings, and writing. (Her favorite thing to do is write, and that is why she has written this story with her BFF for young readers.) She wants to be a lawyer when she grows up. (And, like Adelaide, she misses her class!)
